How to Setup Netgear Nighthawk via Nighthawk App?

Follow the steps given below to configure a Netgear Nighthawk wireless router using the mobile application.

  • Power down the modem and hardwire it to the router.
  • For this, join the router’s Internet port and the modem’s LAN 1 port.

Note: The Internet port of the Nighthawk WiFi router is Yellow or Blue in color. Hence, you can identify it very easily.

  • Switch on your modem and then the Nighthawk router.
  • Once the LED lights on your WiFi router gain stability, unlock the mobile phone.
  • Tap Wifi and locate the SSID of your Nighthawk router and tap it.
  • You will be prompted to enter the router’s WiFi password.
  • For the router’s SSID and password, check the label of the product.
  • After connecting to the router’s WiFi, download the Nighthawk app.

Netgear Router Setup without App: Manual Method

Here is a set of instructions that one must follow to complete the Netgear router setup using the Manual method. FYI, it will require you to use the router’s default web address i.e. routerlogin.net.

  • Unplug your modem and let it rest.
  • Meanwhile, place the Nighthawk router near the modem.
  • Using a LAN cable, join the Internet port and LAN 1 port of the router and modem.
  • Now, using another cable, connect your laptop to the Netgear router.
  • Power up your WiFi devices in the following sequence:

  • Once the LED lights on your router get stable, launch an internet browser.
  • Into the address bar, type routerlogin.net.
  • Press the Enter key.
  • The screen will ask you whether you want to set up the router by yourself or take Genie’s assistance for setup.

Bonus: In case, routerlogin.net doesn’t work for you, try using the Nighthawk router default IP i.e. 192.168.1.1.

  • Click the No option and let your router detect the internet connection.
  • On the next window, agree to the Terms and Conditions of using the router.
  • Proceed by clicking Next.
  • Now, assign an admin password to the router and answer the security questions.
  • The Firmware Update window will appear.
  • Skip the firmware update part for now. It might cause setup problems.
  • The upcoming screen will show you the Netgear router Status page.
  • From here, you can manage your router by clicking the respective tab.
  • Lastly, create your Netgear account and register your product.

Important!

Registering your product will require you to enter your email ID and password. Therefore, do not make any mistakes while filling out a form. Enter the correct details only.
